Green smoothies are a huge thing these days. Everyone is trying to go green and in more ways than just adding kale to your favorite smoothie recipe. Today, I am sharing with you an easy green protein smoothie that will help you kick your morning into high gear! It’s super delicious and healthy.

Kale so good

Kale is my FAVORITE green to work with. It’s full of antioxidants and vitamins. Vitamin K in particular. Let me put my nursing hat on for one second here….If you are on Coumadin you should watch your Vitamin K intake and work with your physician in regard to your diet. Okay, back to Kale! It is a bitter green in it’s raw form, so when you add Kale to a smoothie the end result can leave you with an odd, bitter aftertaste. There is a solution! This green protein smoothie includes MANGO. Mangos and Kale should always go together in a smoothie. Why? Mangos take the bitter taste of kale away! For those of you who don’t like the taste of kale this is for you! And for the kiddos….This green protein smoothie (despite the name) is not green in color. By adding blueberries the end result is more purple (ish).

What about the protein?

Where does the protein come from? I added 1 T of hemp protein (I prefer Hemp over whey) plus the yogurt has protein as well. I love Siggis greek yogurt and much to my delight, they make a plain drinkable yogurt that is perfect for smoothies. To make my life easier, I buy the mixed frozen fruit bag at costco. It includes mangos, pineapple and strawberries. Frozen fruit works really well with smoothies.

No processed sugar

Honey is a fantastic natural sweetener. Instead of using processed sugar, you can use a natural alternative. You still get that “sweetness” but in a more natural way. I add honey to many baking recipes. You can find local raw honey at your nearest farmers market and sometimes the larger grocery stores (depending where you live).
